Dear Professor Stemberg,

My name is Lydia Margarita Cruz. I was born in Rhode Island on January 19, 1999 to rather hippie type parents to put it in a nice way. We moved to Philadelphia, PA when I was in second grade and I stayed there until I graduated high school. Growing up I had a very hectic life, living with parents that were full on addicts. Now just because they were addicts doesn’t mean that they didn’t take care of me or loved me because they did and my life was sort of normal. I grew up having to see my mother and father struggle with health problems and I was the only child so I would help them the best I could. Growing up I knew that I wanted to do something in the medical field just because I spent a lot of time in the hospitals and the hospital life and the pace of it seemed really appealing to me. I decided to go to a state college right out of high school, which I picked and had no idea what it was or where it was. I went there and kind of melted into the life of parties and not going to class. I decided that it was very wrong to be doing those things so I decided to come home back to my parents. In the end of 2019 I met my fiance who was from New York and he brought me over to the Bronx where I discovered Hostos Community College. I chose the major in radiology because I knew that it was helping people in some type of way but it did not require a lot like a doctor or nurse. In the world of radiology I would just love to work in the hospital and do the very best that I can with whatever specialty I choose. I feel alright without inventing anything or doing ground breaking research. I would like to have a regular simple life with a couple of designer bags.

Sincerely,

Lydia Cruz
